Todd Schlabach

CEO/President

Todd Schlabach is CEO/president of Pioneer’s Pride in Hartville, Ohio. Pioneer’s Pride  offers do-it-yourself kits to those who want to build their own timber-frame structures.

In his role as CEO/president, Schlabach oversees the overall strategic business direction of the company, manages personnel and vendors and supervises day-to-day manufacturing operations.

Schlabach started his career in the construction industry at an early age when he worked for his father’s company Schlabach & Sons, a construction company located in Hartville, Ohio, that repaired and painted structures, focusing on timber–frame barns.

Schlabach left Hartville for college, where he began studying to be a minister, but a turn of events guided him to return home to his family in Hartville. Schlabach joined his father’s (John) company officially in 1997 as a partner, and the company was renamed Pro Built Construction. Several years later Pro Built Construction branded itself and began doing business as Hartville Barn Boys.  Over the years, Pro Built Construction has lifted churches, replaced foundations, rebuilt homes, repaired barns, built additions of all kinds and constructed brand new timber-frame barns.

Schlabach’s father’s dedication to quality construction and preservation was passed on to him during this time, and Schlabach learned not only to appreciate old barns, but he found great satisfaction in bring old structures back to life.

Schlabach learned the art of timber framing from his father. It didn’t take long for him to fall in love with the beauty, character and charm of timber-frame construction. Using no nails, timber framing is a construction method that uses heavy timbers with mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs pounded into pre-drilled holes with a wooden mallet.

What started for Schlabach as a curious interest in this centuries-old building method evolved into a passion for the quality of construction and the ageless durability it offered. To this day, he admires the beam structures, and where others see only rafters, beams and braces, Schlabach sees the artistry of true craftsmanship, the family memories that have seeped into the joints over decades of use, and the timeless beauty that preservation could provide for generations to come.

Recently Schlabach’s son, Kayden, began working with the business in operations, the fourth generation to embrace the beauty, grace and elegance of the timber-frame construction method developed centuries ago in Europe and Asia.

Business Development Director

John Schlabach is business development director of Pioneer’s Pride in Hartville, Ohio. Pioneer’s Pride  offers do-it-yourself kits to those who want to build their own timber-frame structures.

In his role as business development director, Schlabach oversees the overall strategic business direction of the company and assists with manufacturing operations and personnel and vendor management.

Schlabach started his career in the construction industry in 1965 when he opened Schlabach & Sons, a construction company located in Hartville, Ohio, that repaired and painted structures, focusing on timber–frame barns. Over the years, Schlabach earned a reputation for his ability to repair barns and specialized in challenging restoration projects, as well as his expertise in building new, timber-frame barn structures. John’s sons Todd, Perry and Matthew worked with him during high school and college to assist with building projects.

For several years, Schlabach took a break from his construction business to use his entrepreneurial savvy to run several local restaurants in the area, the Schlabach’s Hippity Hop restaurant in Hartville and the Golden Nugget restaurants in Hartville and North Canton, as well as a car wash. The overwhelming time demands involved in running the restaurants spurred him to sell the businesses and refocus his efforts on the construction business that he loved.

In 1997, Schlabach’s son, Todd Schlabach, officially joined the company as a partner, and it was renamed Pro Built Construction. Several years later Pro Built Construction branded itself and began doing business as Hartville Barn Boys. Schlabach’s businesses have been built on the core values of family, faith and dedication, quality and hard work. Customers are treated like family and visa versa.  Employees are known to be polite, respectful and neat on the job. The crews are highly organized, professional and meticulous in their work. The result is a business whose growth is due largely from referrals from customers who are thoroughly delighted with a project’s outcome.

Schlabach is a man of faith that is heavily involved in his local church and community.

Charlotte Schlabach

CFO

Charlotte “Charlie” Schlabach is CFO of Pioneer’s Pride in Hartville, Ohio. Pioneer’s Pride  offers do-it-yourself kits to those who want to build their own timber-frame structures.

In her role as CFO, Schlabach oversees the finances of the company, manages accounts receivable and accounts payable and handles the bookkeeping. An integral part of the management team, she has helped at all of the Schlabach’s businesses over the years, bringing her business acumen with estimating, logistics and organization to help drive success.

Schlabach grew up in rural Hartville on her family’s farm, and as a young girl, was introduced to business as her family sold and delivered produce across the United States.  By chance, she went to work at a local pizza shop, and was hired by John Schlabah, who she later married.

In addition to her role at Pioneer’s Pride, Schlabach operates Quail Covey, a bed and breakfast that she opened 10 years ago that is regularly booked with guests who enjoy comfortable surroundings and her signature home-baked scones.
